Melanoma Advocates And Movie Stars Together Against Melanoma

shutterstock_263490074The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) recently announced the 4th annual Miles for Melanoma 5k Run/Walk on the Universal Studios Backlot, which will take place on May 3rd, 2015. All proceeds from the event will serve to accelerate the foundation’s mission of supporting research, advocacy and melanoma education.

As a result of this event, almost $800,000 has been raised for early detection, melanoma prevention, and research efforts. The event offers participants the opportunity to explore some of their favorite movie sets while raising awareness and much-needed funding for melanoma research.

Tim Turnham, the Executive Director of the MRF, said in a press release: “Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, takes someone’s life every hour of every day. More work must be done to educate people about the prevention and early detection of this cancer. During the Miles for Melanoma 5k Run/Walk on the Universal Studios Backlot, melanoma patients, caregivers, advocates and families will convene to raise awareness and critically-needed funding for melanoma research, education and advocacy efforts.”

There are many celebrity friends of the Miles for Melanoma 5k Run/Walk in Universal Studios Backlot to support the initiative, including Sean Astin, Judd Apatow, Jason Biggs, Jason BatemanSoleil Moon Frye, Vin Diesel, Jason George, Ashley Hinshaw, Tyrese Gibson, Rob LoweKellie Martin, Jeannie Mai, Leslie Mann, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Tia Mowry-Hardrict, Molly Simms and Fred Savage.

Anyone who wants to participate in the event will be able to experience many of the iconic movie sets and scenes that the Universal Studios Backlot has produced, such as those from Back to the Future, Jaws, Charlie’s AngelsSpiderman 2, Bruce Almighty and the War of the Worlds plane crash, to name a few.

Sun safety tips will be provided to attendees along with free samples, popular food and refreshments. Further, free skin screenings by qualified medical professionals will be offered to those interested.
